Question : |
What is a Factor Tree ? |
Answer : |
Factor tree is a very helpful way to think about fractions. |
Factor tree is a structure used to find the prime factorization of a positive integer. |
For example, We want to find the prime factors of 60 so that we can write it as a product of its prime factors. |
First we need to start thinking of two factors of 60. Now let us use 3 and 20 as 3 x 20 = 60 |
Now 20 is not a prime number, so we can break each one down into more factors. So we take 4 and 5 as 4 x 5 = 20 |
Further we need to break 4, let us take 2 and 2 as 2 x 2 = 4. |
Hence, 60 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 |
