Question : |
What is an 'Independent Variable' ? |
Answer : |
A quantity which may have any value we care to give it is an Independent Variable. |
The value of the corresponding variable
is given is fixed as soon as the value of the independent variable is known. |
Independent variables are also known as predictor variables, regressors, controlled variables,
manipulated variables, explanatory variables, or input variables.
|
An Independent Variable is a variable which can be assigned any permissible value without
any restriction imposed by any other variable.
|
For example in the equation x + 5 = y we
give x the value 9, then automatically the dependent variable y becomes 14. |
