Question : |
What is the measurement used in Selling Lumber ? |
Answer : |
Lumber is sold according to a special measure of volume called the board foot. |
The number of board feet
= Thickness in inches x Width in feet x Length in feet |
For Example : |
In case we want
to calculate in board feet a Lumber that is 8 foot long 2 by
4 then,
Number of board feet = 2 in x (4/12)ft x 8 ft = (64/12)ft = 5.3 board foot.
2 inches is the thickness in inches,
(4/12) ft is the width in feet,
8 ft is the length in feet. |
Here, pricing is generally quoted per thousand board feet (MBF). |
