Question : |
What is 'Mantissa' ? |
Answer : |
The positive
fractional part of the logarithm is called Mantissa. |
For Example, |
In order to find the logarithm of 9.876 in the table,
we look down the lefthand side of the table, through the column of double figures begining with 10, until we find 98. At the
top of the page there are columns headed by the numbers 0 to 9. We look along the line begining 98 till we come to the
column headed 7. The number given in this place is 9,943. This is the Mantissa of the logarithm of 9.87. |
It also refers to the decimal part of a logarithm. In the logarithm 2.95424, the mantissa is 0.95424. |
